a kinky grandfather of joy

He was so encouraging and kind. He felt like a kinky grandfather of joy, so grateful to have known him. ❤️

Excellent beginner intro to BDSM

Not perfect, occasionally annoying, stubborn . . . a delightful aging hippie who transformed some of his vulnerabilities into resources for connecting people.

He loved and was kind

He checked in, he listened. He had good and bad days. He made mistakes, he was human. And he really cared about people.

Projects of the Jay Wiseman Institute

As an author and educator, some of Jay’s most important work was his writing, and one of the primary goals of the Jay Wiseman Institute is keeping Jay’s work in print. In articles and presentations, he drew from his experience as an EMT to emphasize the dangers of breath play and common mistakes in bondage.

Following Jay’s example and continuing his work, the Jay Wiseman Institute promotes safety and awareness within the kink community. Jay had an active presence on Social Media, and we’d like to continue to share his insights and humor online. Eventually, we’d like to promote CPR training and make sure that local BDSM clubs have a lending library of trusted books.

Ideas for projects? Please share your suggestions with the Jay Wiseman Institute. We’re also eager to interview other leaders within the community and experts in related fields. We welcome opportunities to network with sex-positive organizations and groups for alternative sexualities.

For updates on the organization and projects, sign up for the newsletter and follow us on Facebook.

A New Edition of SM 101?

We’re looking for experts and community leaders to share their perspective on SM 101. Despite the book’s enduring impact on the community, some topics need to be handled differently today. Use the Guestbook (or write an Amazon review) to share your thoughts. Contact us if you’d be willing to help with projects like this.

Likely to remain the standard work on the subject for years to come

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a list of recommended reading for BDSM novices that didn’t include Jay Wiseman’s “SM 101.”

Excellent beginner intro to BDSM

I bought SM101 after a suggestion from an experienced member of the local scene. Wiseman gives newbies an excellent intro to the social rules, ideas and conventions of BDSM.

M. B. Barrett

Effective BDSM Primer

This book should be regarded as the “original authority” or “an old classic” concerning BDSM.
